Bid to tickle market

The latter part of 2004 saw the property market slow down considerably and the major building societies reported record low levels of mortgage applications.
This slow down in the market followed a protracted period when prices had been rising steadily and properties sold quickly, so the change of pace was quite noticeable.
Estate agents believe that the situation will improve as people are now starting to put their houses on the market. The Bank of England has not indicated if interest rates will rise again but it is generally thought that rates may now have peaked and that indeed the rates could begin to fall.
As this factor begins to become more apparent to prospective purchasers, they will be encouraged to take on mortgages and there will certainly be considerable activity amongst the lenders to try to encourage borrowing in the months leading up to the spring market.
People who are anxious to sell their properties ma'y have to reappraise the value of their homes and ask for less than would have been considered during the more buoyant moths of 2004.
Those wishing to buy
and sell properties during 2005 should set the purchase price at a realistic
level and also take account of interest rate trends when deciding upon
the appropriate mortgage for their needs.
